Cambria Driveway & Pavers: The Redwood City Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Cambria-compatible driveway and paver systems in Redwood City, with paver driveway installation typically running $7,000-$18,000 and concrete driveway installation at $4,500-$12,000 depending on substrate condition and pattern complexity. Most Cambria paver replacements we source arrive within 24-48 hours, and we carry common edge restraints and polymeric sand on every truck. Homeowners usually notice the failure first as shifting or settling after winter rains, when water finds its way beneath the bedding layer and undermines what looked solid in September.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria’s hardscape line spans several series, and the part you need depends on when your driveway or patio was installed. The Cambria Coastal, Cambria Heritage, and Cambria Pro-Paver series each use slightly different edge restraint profiles and joint spacing. Check the underside of a loose paver for the stamped series mark, or measure the joint width: Coastal runs 3/16-inch, Heritage at 1/4-inch, and Pro-Paver at 3/8-inch. The edge restraint channel depth also varies, from 7/8-inch on older Heritage installs to 1-1/8-inch on Pro-Paver.

We source OEM Cambria edge restraints and bedding materials through Cambria’s distribution network, though for older Heritage series we’ve found Techo-Bloc’s compatible profile holds up better in Redwood City’s clay-heavy soil, particularly in the Stambaugh-Heller neighborhood where we see more ground movement. We don’t use generic big-box edge restraints on Cambria installs; the flexural strength spec is lower and we’ve pulled enough failed ones out of Mount Carmel and Farm Hills driveways to know the difference. Rowan Construction Group Redwood City is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Cambria.

Signs Your Cambria Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your Cambria Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Individual pavers rock or wobble underfoot. The bedding sand has washed out or compacted unevenly, usually from water intrusion through failed joint sand. In Redwood City, this accelerates after the first heavy December rains when downspouts dump against the edge.
  • Visible gaps opening between pavers. Polymeric sand has degraded or was never properly activated with water during install. Cambria’s spec calls for a specific activation sequence; shortcutting it leaves the joint vulnerable to weed growth and insect nesting.
  • Sinking or low spots, often near the garage or street apron. The base layer has settled, typically because the original excavation didn’t reach stable soil or the Class II base was under-compacted. We’ve found this repeatedly in older Redwood City homes where previous owners poured over existing concrete rather than removing it.
  • Edge restraints pulling away from the perimeter. Spikes have rusted through or the restraint itself has cracked from UV exposure. Cambria’s older PVC restraints get brittle after eight to ten years of Peninsula sun; the newer HDPE formulation lasts longer but isn’t backward-compatible with the same spike spacing.
  • Efflorescence blooming across the surface. White mineral deposits indicate moisture is moving through the pavers and carrying salts upward. It’s not structural damage yet, but it signals the drainage layer beneath is compromised and pressure will build with each wet season.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Cambria paver driveway replacement in Redwood City, expect $7,000-$18,000 installed; concrete driveway replacement runs $5,000-$14,000. The spread depends on three factors: whether we remove the existing base or overlay, the paver pattern complexity (herringbone takes more cuts than running bond), and whether your property needs soil correction for the clay content common west of El Camino Real.

Every quote we write breaks out demolition, base prep, materials, and labor as separate line items. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that written price is locked before we start; no change order moves forward without your signature. Our paver work carries a 365-Day Done Right Promise, and you receive a documented photo record of the excavation, base compaction test, and final layout before we leave. We also stock KraftMaid, Silestone, and Kohler parts for related outdoor kitchen or hardscape plumbing work.

There’s safe reconnaissance and then there’s work that goes wrong fast. A homeowner can check for loose edge restraints, photograph the paver stamp for model identification, and verify whether downspouts discharge onto the driveway surface. What you shouldn’t attempt: lifting settled sections to re-level, cutting pavers with a wet saw without dust suppression, or compacting a new base layer without knowing the soil bearing capacity. We’ve been called to Redwood City jobs where the DIY base looked level but hadn’t been proof-rolled, and the pavers sank again within six months.

The polymeric sand activation step also trips people up. Too little water and it doesn’t set; too much and it washes out the joint. Cambria’s activation window is narrow, and we’ve found the sweet spot varies with ambient temperature. If you’re unsure what you’re seeing, call (650) 560-7228 and we’ll walk through it. If the fix involves base work, we’ll give you a written price before any tool comes off the truck.
