After 2018, Tamko moved toward permeable paver systems with wider joint spacing and specialized bedding gradations. Check the edge restraint itself for embossed markings, or measure the paver thickness: 60mm (about 2⅜ inches) is the residential standard, while 80mm pavers were used in a few Redwood City commercial driveways near Woodside Road.

We source OEM-compatible edge restraints from Perma-Edge and Snap Edge where Tamko’s original specs are still relevant, but we won’t install a PVC restraint in a zone where Redwood City’s soil expansion has already failed one. DIY or Call Us?

An owner can safely check a few things. Tap pavers with a rubber mallet and listen for hollow spots. Look at the edge restraint after a rain: if it’s bowed, the spikes have failed. Check whether joint sand is actually missing or just discolored. These observations help us quote accurately when you call.

Where DIY goes wrong is in the reset. Lifting pavers without disturbing the bedding layer is possible but rarely happens on the first try. Regrading the base without a plate compactor and proper moisture content leaves the same failure waiting.
