CGI Fence Installation: The Redwood City Owner’s Guide

CGI fence installation in Redwood City typically runs $3,500-$9,000 for a complete vinyl fence system, depending on linear footage, terrain grade, and whether we’re replacing an existing boundary or installing on raw soil. We stock CGI-compatible post brackets, rail inserts, and gate hardware on our trucks, and most residential installs in Redwood City are completed in one to two working days. Most owners realize something’s wrong when gate sag becomes visible, rails pull from posts, or wind events leave sections leaning - signs that the bracket system or post footing has failed.

Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI manufactures vinyl fencing across several product lines, and the bracket geometry differs between them. The Estate series uses a 2-inch square rail with internal aluminum reinforcement, while the Chesterfield and Bridgewater lines rely on a 1.5-inch rail with external bracket capture. The label is usually molded into the bottom rail or inside the post cap - look for a four-digit date code and series name. If the label’s sun-faded (common on south-facing sections in Redwood City), measure the rail outer dimension and bracket span: Estate brackets are 3.25 inches on center, Chesterfield 2.875.

We source OEM CGI brackets and rails through their regional distributor in San Jose, but we’ve also vetted two aftermarket equivalents that match the gauge and UV-stabilization spec - the key is the titanium dioxide loading in the vinyl, which determines how the material handles Redwood City’s 240-plus sunny days per year. Generic white vinyl without adequate UV stabilizer will chalk and craze within three seasons here. We document the source on every invoice so you know what you’re getting.

Signs Your CGI Fence Installation Is Failing

Signs Your CGI Fence Installation Is Failing
  • Gate sag that worsens seasonally. The aluminum insert inside the gate rail has either corroded at the weld point or the bottom bracket has wallowed out its mounting hole. Redwood City’s clay-heavy soils in the Mount Carmel and Farm Hill areas shift with winter moisture, accelerating bracket fatigue.
  • Rails pulling from posts with visible gap. The locking tab on the CGI bracket has sheared or the post itself has ovalized from thermal cycling. Vinyl expands roughly 1/8 inch per 10 feet in a 40-degree temperature swing, which Redwood City sees regularly between summer afternoons and foggy mornings.
  • Post lean after moderate wind. The concrete footing has fractured or was never poured to depth. In the soft alluvial soils near Redwood Creek, we regularly find 24-inch footings on 6-foot fences - the minimum for stable wind load here is 36 inches with a 10-inch bell.
  • Discoloration with surface cracking (crazing). UV degradation has compromised the vinyl’s impact resistance. Once crazing appears, the material loses structural integrity and will shatter under point load rather than flex.
  • Hardware corrosion on coastal-exposed sections. CGI’s standard zinc-coated bracket hardware lasts roughly 5-7 years within a mile of the Bay; beyond that, stainless steel or powder-coated replacements are necessary. We’ve replaced hardware on Edgewood Road properties where salt air accelerated galvanic corrosion.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range
Single gate rebuild (hardware, rail, alignment) $650-$1,400
Section replacement (2 rails, 2 posts, brackets) $1,200-$2,800
Full perimeter install, 150 linear feet, standard height $3,500-$6,500
Full perimeter with grade changes, custom gate, removal $6,500-$9,000

The range reflects three variables: soil condition (rock or clay demands longer footing labor), access (narrow side yards in the Centennial neighborhood require hand digging), and whether we’re matching existing CGI color that has shifted over years of sun exposure. Every quote is flat and written before work starts - Clause 1 of the Haven Standard - with line-item breakdown for materials, labor, and haul-away. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers installation defects; manufacturer defects run through CGI’s 20-year residential warranty, which we document and register on your behalf.

There’s a safe middle ground here. An owner can verify the model line from the rail label, measure the failed section, and check whether the post footing is loose by rocking the post base - if it moves at the concrete, the footing has failed and needs re-pour. What goes wrong in DIY is usually the post alignment: CGI’s rail system has zero tolerance for twist. A post even 3 degrees out of plumb will bind the rail during temperature expansion, and the locking tab will eventually shear. We’ve been called to Redwood City DIY jobs where the owner spent a weekend on what we correct in three hours because the string line was off by half an inch over 20 feet.

Post-setting in particular is worth the call. The concrete mix, cure time, and bracket mounting sequence all affect whether the gate will swing true in six months. Call (650) 560-7228 and we’ll give you a written price before anyone picks up a shovel.
