Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards produces several paver and hardscape lines, but their driveway and patio systems fall mainly into the Bristol Series, the Lancaster Series, and the proprietary AY-Lock permeable paver system introduced around 2019. The Bristol and Lancaster lines use a standard 60mm thickness with chamfered edges; the AY-Lock runs 80mm and requires a different edge-restraint profile. Check the underside of a loose paver for the stamped series mark, or measure the joint width: Bristol runs 2mm, Lancaster 3mm, AY-Lock 5mm with its interlocking lug pattern.

We carry OEM-compatible edge restraints, bedding sand, and polymeric joint sand that match ActiveYards specs. For the edge restraint specifically, we prefer the Perma-Edge aluminum system over the original plastic strip; it costs roughly 15% more but holds up where Redwood City’s afternoon sun and winter saturation cycles degrade PVC in three to four years. We source KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for interior jobs, but for exterior hardscape we stick to Belgard and Techo-Bloc equivalents when ActiveYards original stock is back-ordered.

Signs Your ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

• Stepping or rocking underfoot. The bedding layer has washed out or compacted unevenly, usually from poor initial screeding or drainage that sends water under the pavers instead of through them. In Redwood City’s flat lots near the bay, this shows up first where downspouts terminate too close to the pavement edge.
• Weeds growing through joints. The polymeric sand has degraded or was never fully activated; moisture gets in, seeds germinate, and root expansion widens the gaps. We see this most on south-facing driveways in the Farm Hill area where thermal cycling is aggressive.
• Edge pavers tipping outward. The edge restraint has failed, often because plastic spikes pulled out of saturated soil or the restraint itself cracked. Once the border course goes, the field pavers lose lateral lock and the whole assembly starts to spread.
