Check the top sash track or hinge side of the door for a small foil label with a 6-10 digit serial; if that’s gone, measure the visible glass width and height to the nearest eighth-inch and note whether the frame is vinyl, aluminum-clad, or fiberglass.

The gotcha is the 5000 Series tilt-latch: the OEM and aftermarket versions look identical but differ by 3/32 inch in pin spacing, which will bind in the track if mixed. Signs Your ActiveYards Windows or Doors Are Failing

• Window slams shut or won’t stay open. The coil balance system has lost tension or the pivot bar has worn. In Redwood City’s mild but marine climate, salt air accelerates corrosion of the balance shoe, so we often find the coil intact but the shoe seized.

• Crank operator grinds or skips on casement windows. The worm gear in the operator mechanism has stripped, often from overtightening. The replacement operator must match the arm length and mounting hole pattern exactly - there are three ActiveYards crank styles in circulation.
