Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard doesn’t label its hardscape components the way an appliance manufacturer stamps a model plate. What matters for matching is the series, the edge profile, and the manufacturing date stamped on the pallet or etched into the paver chamfer. We work most frequently with Belgard Dublin Cobble, Catalina Slate, and Weston Wall units on Redwood City ADU projects. The Dublin Cobble comes in 60mm and 80mm thicknesses, and the 80mm version is what you need for any vehicular approach to a garage conversion ADU. Mix the two and you’ll get differential settling within two winters.

Belgard’s Tandem Wall system, used for grade retention on sloped lots in the Farm Hill area, has a specific corner unit and cap profile that changed in 2019. The post-2019 cap is slightly wider. If you’re patching a wall built before then, the current SKU won’t match without a visible seam. We keep both profiles in our supplier network because of exactly this issue. OEM Belgard is our default, but for out-of-production colors like the old Sierra blend, we source from Belgard’s remaining warehouse stock rather than pushing a close-enough substitute. The color match either works or it doesn’t; there’s no acceptable middle ground on a foundation wall that faces the street.

Signs Your Belgard Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

• Pavers rocking or sounding hollow underfoot. This means the bedding sand has washed out or the base layer wasn’t compacted to 98% standard Proctor density. In Redwood City, our winter saturation followed by dry summers accelerates this if the edge restraint failed first.
• White efflorescence blooming on the surface. Calcium hydroxide migrating through the paver body is normal for 6-12 months after install, but persistent efflorescence after year two signals water trapped behind or beneath the system, often from a missing or punctured drainage mat.
• Retaining wall leaning or stair-step cracking. The Tandem or Weston Wall unit is carrying more load than designed, or the geogrid reinforcement layer was omitted during original construction. Hillside lots in Emerald Hills and Farm Hill see this when previous owners built up grade without engineering.
• Standing water 24 hours after rain. Permeable pavers like Belgard Eco Dublin clog with fine sediment if the aggregate subbase wasn’t wrapped in geotextile. Once clogged, they shed water like solid concrete, which defeats the purpose and pools against your ADU siding.
• Joint sand disappearing completely. Polymeric sand failure lets water into the bedding layer, but it also means the paver lock is gone. Individual units drift, edges round off, and the whole field starts to look like a cobblestone street after five years instead of twenty.
