IKO Fence Installation: The Redwood City Owner’s Guide

IKO fence installation in Redwood City typically runs $3,500-$9,000 for a complete vinyl system, with most residential jobs falling in the $5,000-$7,000 range depending on linear footage and grade changes. We stock IKO-compatible posts, rails, and pickets for same-day starts on most standard heights, and we carry the full color palette that IKO ships to the West Coast. Most Redwood City homeowners discover their fence needs attention when posts lean after winter rains saturate the clay-heavy soils in neighborhoods like Edgewood or Farm Hill, or when UV exposure on south-facing yards brittles the top rails after eight to ten years.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO’s fence line is narrower than their roofing catalog, which is actually helpful: there are fewer compatibility traps. The current IKO fence portfolio centers on the Vinyl Privacy and Vinyl Picket series, with post dimensions standardized at 5″ × 5″ for privacy panels and 4″ × 4″ for picket styles. The critical identifier is the post cap stamp - flip it over and you’ll find a molded date code and series letter (P for Privacy, K for Picket) that tells us which rail bracket geometry you need.

IKO discontinued their Aluminum Accent line in 2019, so if your fence dates to 2015-2019 and has powder-coated aluminum top rails with vinyl posts, you’re in a transition zone where OEM rails are scarce. We source those through a secondary fabricator in San Jose who reverse-engineered the bracket spacing. For everything else, we stock both OEM IKO components and a vetted aftermarket equivalent from CertainTeed’s Bufftech line, which matches the wall thickness (0.065″ for posts, 0.040″ for rails) and the UV stabilizer package that matters in Redwood City’s 260-plus annual days of sun.

Rowan Construction Group Redwood City is an independent service provider - not affiliated with IKO - and we source parts through three regional distributors to keep lead times short.

Signs Your IKO Fence Installation Is Failing

Signs Your IKO Fence Installation Is Failing
  • Posts lean or wobble at the base. Redwood City’s clay-loam soil expands when wet and contracts in dry summers, gradually loosening the concrete footing. In the Stambaugh-Heller neighborhood, we regularly see 4×4 posts tilt 3-4 degrees after heavy winter rains because the original installer used a 24″ depth instead of the 30″ minimum IKO specifies for seismic Zone 4.
  • Top rails sag between posts. The rail itself hasn’t failed; the internal aluminum stiffener has corroded where the end bracket traps moisture. IKO’s 2012-2018 privacy series used a thinner .020″ stiffener that we replace with a .035″ equivalent.
  • Picket tops crack or craze. This is UV degradation of the cap stock, accelerated on south and west exposures. The vinyl substrate holds strength, but the cosmetic layer is gone and water will wick into the cellular core within two more rainy seasons.
  • Gate drags or won’t latch. Hinge barrels on IKO gates are steel with a zinc coating; once the coating wears at the pivot point, the barrel swells with rust. The gate frame itself is usually fine - it’s a $40 hinge pair versus a $400 gate replacement.
  • Bottom rail bulges outward. Ground contact or repeated weed-whacker impact fractures the rail’s bottom wall, then the internal lattice (the “pickle” in trade terms) pushes through. This happens faster where sprinklers hit the fence daily.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a standard Redwood City lot with 60-80 linear feet of IKO vinyl fence, here’s how the numbers break:

Component Typical Range
Post replacement (single, including footing) $350-$550
Rail replacement (per 8-ft section) $180-$280
Panel replacement (privacy, 6 ft × 8 ft) $400-$650
Gate rebuild (existing frame, new hardware) $320-$480
Complete new IKO vinyl fence (60-100 ft) $3,500-$9,000

What drives the range: access (steep grades in Farm Hill add labor), soil condition (rotted posts in clay mean bigger footings), and whether we’re matching existing faded color or replacing a full run. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, you get a written price before anyone picks up a tool - every line item listed, no “allowances” that balloon later. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation; IKO’s material warranty (typically 20 years residential) runs direct to you from the manufacturer. We pull permits when the city requires them, which for Redwood City kicks in at 6 feet of height or any retaining function.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s where honesty saves everyone time. A homeowner can safely check whether a post is loose by rocking it at ground level, and you can confirm a cracked rail by sighting down its length. What we don’t recommend: digging out a concrete-footed post without knowing where PG&E’s lateral runs, or trying to reset a post plumb in expansive clay without a laser and a bag of proper concrete mix rated for sulfate resistance.

The real DIY trap is color matching. IKO’s “White” has shifted formulation twice since 2015, and the current SKU is noticeably cooler in tone than 2018 stock. We’ve seen homeowners replace one rail and create a two-tone fence that looks worse than the original problem. We stock sample chips from five production years to avoid that.

If your fence is leaning, cracking, or just looking tired, call (650) 560-7228 and we’ll schedule a free estimate. We bring the color samples, the post depth gauge, and a written price before we leave.
